Davis Roots Located in the heart of Downtown Davis, Davis Roots is a non-profit start-up business accelerator that fosters the formation and early development of new high-growth ventures. Davis Roots was founded to provide early and direct support for entrepreneurs to locate and grow in Davis, California.
Emerging ventures (typically 1-3 founders that may or may not have incorporated yet) apply for and are selected into a mentoring program that supports preparation of a more detailed 9-month launch strategy, which includes project and funding milestones.
If their plan is accepted, new ventures are given office space within Davis Roots for a designated period of time. At the end of their designated time, ventures that raise external funding are provided assistance in finding Davis office space to continue their growth in town. (davisroots.org)
Davis Marker Space A diverse group of local builders, makers, hackers, programmers and entrepreneurs make the Davis Marketspace (DMS) more than just a place to work. With their hardware, software, metal and wood, they not only build robots, but also trebuchets and musical instruments. DMS is also a community that teaches and learns a wide variety of skills and subjects that emanate from the intersection of science, technology, and art.
DMS operates a shared, open workshop for creative projects, skill sharing, and the exchange of ideas in Downtown Davis. The DMS workshop, shared tool library, and learning events are open to the community and are supported by user donations. (davismarketspace.org)
Assistance Available
City and Chamber staff can assist you with possible business locations and connect you to business resources. If your business needs zoning approval or a building permit, staff can help guide you through the process. For smaller projects, these services are free of charge and will help staff flag issues early on. Larger projects can utilize a fee based pre-application process where you can get feedback from all City Departments, the Planning Commission, or the City Council if necessary.
